Japan Part II

Cindy's Life as a Missionary in Japan...Again

Cindy in Japan

Who...

The VYM Program (Volunteer Youth Ministry) is run by the
Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod World Mission Department and operates within two main locations in Japan: the greater Tokyo Area and Niigata City. Yukie Shimomasu is the VYM Director.  She is not only fluent in English, but she almost always knows more about American culture than I do.  She graduated from Concordia University, Seward (in Nebraska). Currently there are 3 missionaries in Niigata and 6 missionaries in the Tokyo Area.    The normal term of commitment is for 2.5 years, though missionaries have the option to extend, which many do.  Check out the VYM Japan website for more information about the other missionaries on the field.  You can download prayer cards for each of them on the LCMS website.

Where...

How...

Many of the expenses for missionaries in Japan, such as housing and monthly stipends, are paid for on the field from the income received from teaching English.  However, all of the "stateside" expenses, such as insurance, transportation to/from Japan, training and office support costs, etc. come from donations.
